The alternative rock started around late 80s and it has become popular ever since 90s. The alternative is known as indie rock but it is very hard to define its exact definition since there are so many genres are incorporated into alternative rock. And this time I like to introduce some of the grunge alternative bands. The band, Bush is formed in U.K. and they started post-grunge scene even before band Nirvana. Ironically, despite the fact they were the few bands with grunge sound during that time, they did not receive much popularity after their debut album; so they really did not get a chance to join the whole grunge scene during mid-90s. This track called “Glycerin” from the album Sixteen Stone in 1994 which is their debut album. This song is only corporate with guitar and violin. The guitar chords remain the same almost through the whole song and violin joins in after every verses. I really like the sound of violin because it helps bring out the singer’s emotions, the message he’s trying to reach out to listeners. Also with vocal, Galvin’s raspy and husky voice actually works very well, even though this song is rather quite depressing than their usual post-grunge sound. In the bridge of the song, I could hear the mild grudge sound in guitar playing and violin and cello join together; I think it’s the best part of the song. I also like the end of the song when violin soloing and I think it’s a great way of ending this gloomy song with classic instrument.
